Looking for a job with transportation in the military? A motor transport career allows a soldier to work with the thousands of different vehicles in any branches motor pool. Some different types of transportation an operator can be in charge of include: • Heavy troop transporters Despite whatever branch you join, transporting goods, materials and personnel is the main job of a Transportation Motor Pool Operator. This job can be exciting, since every day there is a new challenge, whether it involves transporting goods to a certain location, or moving troops where they need to go in either peacetime or on the battlefield. Careers in motor transport allow operators to be trained in driving any type of vehicle that the military branch has. These vehicles often include: • Passenger vehicles Being the supervisor in a motor transport involves more than operating vehicles. They are also in charge of keeping detailed records of all transportation, being involved in combat or convoy missions, being prepared to drive any vehicle on any terrain, condition or situation and reading all types of load plans. To attain a career in motor transport, a soldier must first go through Basic Training, which lasts for 9 weeks. After training is completed, 6-8 weeks of individual advanced training allows you to specialize in a specific career and learn the basics of the job. Part of the training is in a classroom, and the rest is hands-on instruction out in the field. Once the training is complete, you will be assigned to a motor transportation unit.
